As Donald Sutherland is to Alan Alda, Kristy Swanson is to Sarah Michelle Gellar. Both Donald and Kristy played the original roles in movies (Hawkeye in M*A*S*H* and Buffy in Buffy The Vampire Slayer respectively) in which their character became even more famous when those movies became hit TV series. The other common thread here is that both of these TV series were actually more popular than the original movies they were inspired by. However, as an editorial note, Kristy Swanson is this publication's winner for the role of Buffy despite Sarah's huge following. It could be a generational thing.
